WE’RE BACK

by The Scene on July 16th, 2008

So you may have noticed that Scenes From The Scene has been a little dormant lately. Actually, its been a lot dormant - we haven’t technically posted anything since the beginning of June. So yeah, sorry about that.

In what must come as a shock to exactly no one, SFTS is largely operated by members of the band Dubious Ranger. Dubious has spent most of the last month at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone studio recording a new album. Every moment we haven’t spent neck deep in 2″ audio tape and vintage echoplexes, we’ve been spending in a drug-induced stupor trying to come up with innovative new ways to take all the nice pop songs we have written and ruin them with disorienting snippets of horrible noise. It’s going to win 12 Grammy awards, trust us. Or at least one of the songs is going to be appear on an episode of Gossip Girl. In 2008 those carry about equal prestige.

Anyway, so the moral of the story is that we’re back and ready to once again deliver all the useless crap you’ve been grudgingly putting up with for however long we’ve been doing this.

This Is How Its Going To Go

by The Scene on February 5th, 2008

Listen - so here’s the deal: San Francisco is a great place to be, the weather’s great, the drugs are strong and plentiful, and no one seems to give a shit about what you do as long as you’re not voting Republican or wearing fur. Nevertheless, there’s this perception that The City’s cultural capital has been gradually declining since that time near the end of the Summer of Love when everyone ran out of pot. But as anyone who has hopped on their single-speed and hit the town recently can tell you, there’s more cool shit to do in this city than ever before, it’s just grown out and gotten nebulous, harder to pin down or define. But there’s a buzz going on that’s just starting to bubble up to the surface. A “scene”, as the kids like to say these days, is evolving and maturing — slowly solidifying into something solid and tangible

We at the Nothing Room started this blog to document that scene and, in the process, help it grow. We’re going to tell you where to be on Tuesday at 9pm (trivia night at the Bitter End), Friday at 7pm (the back patio at El Rio sucking down all the free oysters you think is safe), and Saturday at 2am (standing outside of Delirium, bacon wrapped hot-dog in one hand and a paper bag full of tallboy in the other). But most of all, we’re going to be talking about music. We’re going to be talking up every kick-ass local band that’s currently tearing down the walls of the Elbo Room and Blake’s and Rickshaw Stop and everywhere north, south, east and west of there. And since we have the collective attention span of a coked-out flea, there’s pretty much no limit to the blog’s overall focus. Some time its going to get political other times its going to get real arty, but mostly its just going to be very very sexy.

Why are we doing this? Well…if you really want to know…we’re doing this because anyone can tell you that “Tuesday is the new Thursday,” but only we can help you make it happen. Remember that episode of South Park when they go to San Francisco and everyone there spends all their time smelling their own farts? Well, think of this blog as your own personal, hipster fart sommelier. Take a deep breath, you’ve earned it.
