Who Knew?

by The Scene on June 5th, 2008

There are certain things that should never go together: orange juice and toothpaste, magic mushrooms and grandma’s house and, if you asked us about this yesterday, we might have also said Daft Punk and a capella.  Well, as per usual, color us surprised because we just found that the French electro-dance duo’s music actually sounds pretty good when done a capella.

Tastes From The Taste

by The Scene on June 5th, 2008

In addition to hitting up all the shows and bars the kids are going to we also tend to catch a bite from time to time. The City dutifully covers the gamut from fine dining to all-night burritos and in our new series entitled “Tastes from the Taste” we feature photos of delectable bits from around town. This weeks’ entry includes prime examples of this spectrum of fare.

First, a delicious meatloaf from the Hotel Utah. Just like mom used to make.

Catsup

Second, a desert burger from Fleur de Lys. Also, interestingly enough, just like mom used to make.

Evil Urges

by The Scene on June 4th, 2008

The new album from KY-based rockers My Morning Jacket, Evil Urges, is streaming in its entirety from their MySpace page. There’s been an absolute assload of hype around this release and, we have to admit, our one-listen verdict is that it’s pretty damn good. There’s a much deeper southern-rock aesthetic present here than on Z and there’s a certain classicism in their song structures such that they instantly feel familiar, even the first time you hear them. To make a record that accomplishes this without seeming cliched or dull is no small feat.
